Decoding Dementia

The path to a world without dementia starts with a brain tissue sample. Researchers at the University of California, Davis, are developing AI-driven tools to analyze vast digital archives of brain tissue scans — work that cannot be done at scale by humans alone — to better understand dementia and improve diagnosis and treatment.

In Memoriam: Andrew Dienes, Innovator in Ultrafast Lasers and Distinguished Faculty Member

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is saddened to announce the passing of Professor Andrew Dienes, a seminal figure in the field of ultrafast optics and a dedicated member of the UC Davis faculty for decades.

Born in Hungary in 1939, Professor Dienes brought a world-class research pedigree to Davis. After receiving his Ph.D. in physics from the California Institute of Technology, or Caltech, in 1967, he spent six transformative years as a member of the technical staff at Bell Laboratories in Holmdel, New Jersey.
