Two UC Davis Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) postdocs, Soheil Salehi and Matthew Drescher, were recently named 2020 and 2021 Computer Innovation Fellows (CIFellows), respectively, by the Computing Research Association (CRA) and the Computing Community Consortium (CCC).

The Radulaski group at UC Davis' electrical and computer engineering department (ECE) has completed an international project on quantum emitter integration into nanodevices whose results have been published today in Nature Materials in a manuscript entitled Fabrication and nanophotonic waveguide integration of silicon carbide colour centres with preserved spin-optical coherence.

Machine-learning algorithms, while not intended to replace human doctors, can be powerful tools to help process and make sense of patient data. Electrical and computer engineering professor Chen-Nee Chuah and computer science professor Xin Liu are preparing sensors and algorithms to work alongside doctors to treat patients.

UC Davis’ electrical and computer engineering (ECE) department just opened its doors to 300 students, the largest first-year class in the past 15 years. A virtual fall welcome event held on Sept 21st included talks from professors and administrators and a panel presentation from current students.

The National Science Foundation has awarded UC Davis, electrical and computer engineering department (ECE) a Major Research Instrument Grant for ultra-high-speed data instrumentation for research in the millimeter-wave and TeraHertz frequency regime.  The ability to generate and capture electronic signals at such high frequencies is essential to the ongoing research in ECE in THz integrated circuits and systems, THz semiconductor devices and ultra-fast electronics and photonics.

Toluwanimi (Toluwa) Odemuyiwa, Ph.D. student, advised by John Owens, was just chosen for one of Microsoft's prestigious Ph.D. fellowships. 

UC Davis’ electrical and computer engineering (ECE) professor John Owens was recently recognized as a fellow within the IEEE and the AAAS.  

His research focuses on the intersection of hardware and software, especially for graphics processing units (GPUs): writing software that works well with GPU hardware and building hardware that works well with the software engineers would like to design.  

UC Davis electrical and computer engineering professor Zhi Ding was recently awarded an IEEE Communications Society Education Award.  

UC Davis’ electrical and computer engineering (ECE) department offers a wide-range of project-based design courses for undergraduate seniors.  

Each of these courses involves an independent open-ended design experience where students work in teams of three or more on a multidisciplinary project. Each group presents their designs for review and gives a final report. Topics for the courses include applied machine learning, the Internet of Things, analog circuits, digital systems, microwaves, THz, and light waves, among other areas of electrical and computer engineering.
