ECE Industrial Affiliates Symposium a Success

On April 27, 2018, the UC Davis Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering hosted over 150 industry and academic friends and affiliates at the annual Industrial Affiliates Symposium, where more than 60 industry partners were represented.

The day was filled with presentations from the department’s own faculty as well as the students.  Most notably, the highlight of the event was UC Davis Chancellor Gary May awarding UC Davis alumnus Andy Botka (BS, ’87) the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Distinguished Alumni Award.  Andy, the Vice-President of Strategic Planning, Keysight Technologies, followed the award ceremony with a riveting keynote speech, “A Thought Provoking Message to the Next Generation of Engineers from a Past Graduate.”

The symposium was the perfect occasion for the ECE Department to show industry partners our wide array of faculty-led, next-generation developments and applications.  It also gave ECE students the opportunity to share their innovative research projects with the faculty and industry representatives.  The schedule of events included new faculty presentations by Associate Professor Srabanti Chowdhury and Assistant Professor Weijian Yang, technical sessions featuring several faculty and student presentations, and an interactive poster session that highlighted the research of over 70 undergraduates, graduates, and postdocs.  Students and postdocs were excited about the opportunity to interact with industry representatives, showcase their projects, and talk about potential career opportunities post-graduation.  Attendees were also able to hear about ECE’s new developments and our future direction.
